Town Road Street Sweeping

The Town of Red Hook Highway Department begins sweeping the Town roads in early spring, usually late March or early April. The sweeping is done by section and each section takes about 1 to 1 ½ weeks to complete. This is not a time table, rather a general guideline, and the order within each section is not specific. Many things can affect our sweeping program such as weather, mechanical failure of the equipment, available manpower and unforeseen situations in general. After an initial sweep the operator will check the routes to determine if they need to be swept again.

It is important that the residents are aware that the sweeping machine CANNOT PICK UP PILES OF GRAVEL! If you rake gravel off your lawn and into the street, the gravel must be raked somewhat level. Please do not sweep brush or leaves into the gravel. The sweeper cannot and will not pick it up.
