TOWN OF RED HOOK WATER DISTRICT #1 AUTUMN 2018 NEWSLETTER
Pump Controls Update – We had a series of problems with getting our Variable Frequency Drives, (VFD’s), operating satisfactorily. We had to install special power wires to the pumps. The pump motor had a short and the VFD’s failed. We could not get the pump volume that we had anticipated. Finally, the last week in August, the final adjustments worked. We are now good!
Tank to Pumps Radio – Another glitch with radio communication from the tank to the pumps. We had to replace the radio transmitter and receiver pack and transducer. When our operator, Fernando, removed the transducer from the pipe, the “nipple” broke. He had to keep his “finger in the dike” until his people arrived with the repair kit.
Tank Rehabilitation or Replacement – The Water Board decided that we will not rehabilitate the tank. Instead we will use it as long as we can – maybe 10 to 20 years.
The tank is still in good shape; it would need rehabilitation only if we expected to continue to use it for more cycles of rehabilitation. In the meantime we will consider replacement options, as well as the possibility of significant grants.
Please maintain access to your local hydrant, and to your meter register or meter pit. Shrubs and weeds grow fast and autumn leaves accumulate!
